Integrating Voice Assistants and Smartwatch Interaction

I led the UX research for two projects at Oddschecker concerned with expanding the range of user interactions with the mobile application.

One project was focused in integrating voice assistants with the mobile application. The other project explored how users could interact with the mobile application through smartwatches.

The research plan for the two projects was identical. I started by conducting in-depth user interviews, followed by an analysis technique called Affinity Diagramming. Afterwords, I facilitated an internal workshop in order to figure out the limitations and constraints with developing these two features.

Research Approach

In-Depth User Interviews

I conducted 12 in-depth user interviews with individuals familiar with betting, from novices to expert users. The main goal of the interviews was to validate the needs for these two features, identify pain points and uncover past experiences the participants had with voice assistants and smartwatches. These interviews were done remotely due to the pandemic.

Affinity Diagramming

Affinity diagramming was the analysis technique used to consolidate the knowledge from the interviews and group the insights into clusters. The affinity diagramming also served as a visual reference for members of the team to consult and provide valuable feedback.

Workshops

I facilitated an internal workshop with data analysts, software engineers and the design team in order to identify any issues, limitations or challenges we might encounter in incorporating these features with our mobile application. Once again, the workshops were done remotely due to the pandemic.
