Creating a Tipster Community

Following the successful implementation of tipster profiles, I was responsible for researching ways to increase user engagement. The internal stakeholders wanted to expand the idea of tipster profiles and create a community for individuals to post their tips, follow their favourite tipsters and check how their tips are performing over time.

The project is in the early stages of development and therefore, this was mainly an exploratory research project. The research project consisted of competitive testing, in-depth user interviews and concept mapping.

Research Approach

Competitive Testing

Competitive testing was the first research task that I performed in this project. There’s a variety of online communities that are very successful in terms of user engagement and the team wanted to uncover what makes those communities appealing to their costumers.

In-Depth User Interviews

Competitive testing was followed by in-depth user interviews. I interviewed 8 people with some familiarity with betting. The goal of these interviews was to discover what users value in a community, what makes them engaged and what are the factors that ultimately make them leave a community.

Concept Mapping

Concept mapping was the analysis technique used to synthesise all the information derived from the competitive testing and the user interviews. The concept mapping was used as a visual framework for members of the team to use as a reference.
